FAFSA Workshop To Be Held November 25

“It’s crucial for our seniors to complete the FAFSA,” says George Thompson, GEAR UP Kentucky district program manager for Bath County Schools. “Millions of dollars of student aid funds are left on the table every year because students who would qualify for the funds don’t complete the FAFSA, and we want to ensure that qualified students at Bath County High School don’t miss this opportunity. Completing the FAFSA is free, and the GEAR UP Kentucky staff is here to help ensure that students and their families have the assistance they need as they go through the process.”

The Bath County School District is one of 12 school districts that have been selected to participate in GEAR UP Kentucky, a seven-year, $24.5 million grant program designed to increase the number of students graduating from high school and transitioning into postsecondary education. GEAR UP Kentucky, the sole state grant awarded in Kentucky by the U.S. Department of Education, is administered through the Council on Postsecondary Education, and will serve more than 12,000 students over the duration of the grant.

GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, provides no-cost services to students and their families that support: increased academic performance and postsecondary preparation; high school graduation and participation in college; and student and family knowledge of postsecondary options, preparation and financing. Nationally, GEAR UP students apply and enroll in postsecondary education at a higher rate than their peers. GEAR UP Kentucky students will receive services through their first year of postsecondary education.
