Student Leadership at Crossroads Elementary
As part of CES commitment to success within our students, Crossroads offers our fifth grade students the opportunity to be part of the leadership team. This leadership team began to help students in 5th grade engage in community works, give back to their school, and gain important leadership skills. The leadership team is a program to help students build on their leadership skills and are nominated by their teachers. These nominations are based on the student's respect towards the school, staff, peers, and self, as well as their attitude on taking on extra jobs.
What does the Leadership Team do?
The Leadership team helps throughout the school year with a variety of activities and services. Some of these activities include (but are not limited to): Grandparents Day, school events, classroom helpers, assistants to staff or teachers, hands on tasks (making copies, stuffing mailboxes for teachers, distributing materials for FRC/school staff, announcements, etc).
The Leadership team students are asked to attend ONE monthly meeting during their RTI time (1/2 hour session). During these meetings students work on a variety of leadership skills, team building work, etc. Students are RARELY asked to miss classroom instructional time. In the rare occasion that this does occur, teachers are made aware, as well as administrators.
Why is Student Leadership Important?
- Builds character
- Helps children take ownership of their school
- Positive leadership roles for children
- Builds a sense of community and school spirit
