The AP Chemistry course is designed to be the equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the first year of college. For some freshman, this course will enable them to undertake second-year work in the chemistry sequence or to register for other courses where chemistry is a prerequisite. For others, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the lab science requirements and frees times for other courses. The AP Chemistry course is designed to be taken only after the successful completion of a first course in high school chemistry. This course is structured around the six big ideas stated in the AP Chemistry curriculum provided by the College Board. Emphasis will be placed on seven science practices that combine content with inquiry and reasoning skills.
